Batting first, Bangladesh got off to a fine start with Tamim Iqbal and Liton Das putting on 95 for the opening wicket. South Africa struck back thrice, but Shakib built a masterful 115-run stand with Yasir Ali who also scored a half century.
Mahmudullah, Afif Hossain and Mehidy all played cameos as Bangladesh went past the 300-run mark to set a daunting 315 chase. For South Africa, Keshav Maharaj and Marco Jansen starred with two wickets each as the rest of the attack failed to deliver.
