This week certainly doesn’t seem to be going well for football’s highest-ever goal-scorer, who was first benched by Manchester United’s new interim manager Michael Carrick and then saw his Universal rival Messi move further away from him as Messi won his 7th Ballon d’Or while Ronaldo came sixth in the rankings, 435 votes behind the Argentinean.

Lionel Messi, however, didn’t leave his dignity. The Argentinian superstar said Robert Lewandowski was the deserved winner and not him while also urging the French Football Association to give him 2020 Ballon d’Or that was cancelled.
“Robert, you deserve your Ballon d’Or. Last year, everyone was in agreement to say that you were the big winner of this award. Hopefully, France Football will give you the 2020 Ballon d’Or. We all believe you deserved it and I hope you can have it at home,” Lionel Messi said in his speech.
While Messi maintained his sportsmanship, it was Cristiano Ronaldo who made a U-turn after calling out lies of Ballon d’Or chief, who said all the Portuguese superstar wanted was to finish with more golden balls than Messi.
