Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic defeats Zverev, set to face Karatsev in semi-final


Australian Open 2021: Novak Djokovic vs Alexandar Zverev quarterfinal result- The World No.1 Novak Djokovic has cruised into the semifinal of the Australian Open after his enthralling performance against Alexandar Zverev in the fourth set tiebreaker. The 33-year-old won the match 6-7, 6-2, 6-4, 6-6 (7-6). He will face Aslan Karatsev in the semifinals.

Djokovic has never lost the Australian Open title after entering the semis. Djokovic is aiming for his third consecutive Australian Open title. The Serbian has won eight titles in the year’s first Grand Slam. He has 17 Grand Slams to his name, only behind Rafa Nadal and Roger Federer (20 Grand Slams each).


Speaking about the stiff competition from Zverev, Djokovic said, “With these type of conditions I need to warm up and I still felt it would take time to feel I could rotate well. It was a close tie break [in the first set] and after that I felt I moved better.

“I hit slightly more aces, which is a miracle for me. Down to the last shot, it was anyone’s match.

“It was a great battle and congratulations to Sacha for a great tournament – we pushed each other to the limit.”

Earlier today, Serena Williams, Naomi Osaka and Aslan Karatsev secured their place in the semifinals of the Australian Open 2021. On Wednesday, the second quarterfinal will kick off with top-seeded players Rafa Nadal, Ash Barty, Stefanos Tsitsipas in action.
