Australian Open 2021: Aslan Karatsev stuns Grigor Dimitrov to enter semifinals- World No. 114 Aslan Karatsev of Russia has stunned 18th seed Grigor Dimitrov in the quarterfinals to secure his place in men’s singles semifinals in the Australian Open 2021. Karatsev came from behind after losing the opening set 2-6 to win the remaining sets 6-4, 6-1, 6-2. He will face the winner of Novak Djokovic vs Alexandar Zverev’s quarterfinal match that will be played later today.

The 29-year-old Bulgarian took a medical timeout for treatment on his back after losing the third set.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling. Of course it’s my first time playing [a Grand Slam] main draw, first time semis,” Karatsev said in his on-court interview after his win, adding “It’s incredible.”

“It was really tough from the beginning for me to hold the nerves. It was really tricky. I tried to find a way how to play and then in the third set he felt the back,” he added further.

Later today, World No. 1 Novak Djokovic, Alexandar Zverev, World No. 2 Simona Halep and Serena Williams will be in action in quarterfinal 1 of Australian Open 2021. On Wednesday, Rafael Nadal, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev, A Rublev, K Muchova (25th seed) and World No.1 Ash Barty will also feature in quarterfinals 2.
