Australia playing XI vs Pakistan: Australia sealed their place in the T20 World Cup semi-final on Saturday after a dominating win over the West Indies to set up a mouth-watering clash against Group 2 winners Pakistan. David Warner and Mitchell Marsh scored half-centuries in a regulation chase, with the latter seemingly sealing his place in the XI with his return to form. Marsh’s return should keep Ashton Agar out of the side, despite his left-arm spin being a potent option on tracks in the UAE. Australia have peaked at the right time in the T20 World Cup as they have reached the semi-finals for the first time since 2012. David Warner’s return to form has been one of the biggest positives coming into the game against Pakistan, while Mitchell Marsh also sealed his return to the XI with a half-century against West Indies in the final league game.

Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have shown glimpses of their good form in parts, while Steve Smith has excelled in his new role as a floater, similar to how Chennai Super Kings used Subramanium Badrinath earlier in the decade with MS Dhoni as captain. The former Australian captain has done well as a “rescue operator” while Maxwell and Stoinis have been tasked with finishing the innings. Australia bat deep with Matthew Wade at 7, while Maxwell Dtoinis and Marsh combine to complete the fifth bowler duties.

PAK vs AUS LIVE: Bowling has clicked well Aaron Finch, with Mitchell Starc back at his best, while Josh Hazlewood has made most of his IPL experience and put in some noteworthy performances during the T20 World Cup. Adam Zampa has single-handedly handled the burden of the spin attack, while Pat Cummins has contributed effectively in what is one of the best attacks in the tournament.

Aaron Finch has no reason to tinker with his combination unless there is a genuine injury concern, something that is yet to be known. Australia will be aiming for consistency and bringing in a new player for the huge game against Pakistan would not be ideal preparation as they hope to end their T20 World Cup drought. The Aussies have never lifted the World Cup in the shortest format of the game, finishing as runners-up once back in 2010.

Probable Australia playing XI vs Pakistan: David Warner, Aaron Finch (c), Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Steven Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Wade (wk), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Adam Zampa, Josh Hazlewood
