Ash Barty announced her retirement from tennis last month, at the tender age of 25. Incredibly, he decided to hang her boots up when she was World No 1 in the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) rankings, and had won already three major titles in French Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open. Following her retirement from Tennis, some feel that Barty could try out cricket, given that she once was a professional cricketer and even played in the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).

Back in 2014, Barty took a hiatus from Tennis and switched to cricket, signing with WBBL team Brisbane Heat. He played 9 matches for Brisbane before going back to cricket once again. On being asked if the Australian women’s team will be interested in having her back, captain Meg Lanning said “If she wants to come and have another crack at cricket (we) would certainly be interested in talking to her. She was pretty good at last time she played. She seems very talented at most things she does. Let’s see what happens.”

The Aussie women recently lifted the 2022 ICC Women’s World Cup in spectacular fashion and while getting a chance in that team seems very difficult, they could consider ‘national pride’ Barty for a role if she decides to make the switch.
All-rounder Ellyse Perry praised the 25-year-old’s mental strength by saying “There’s a general expectation you’ll play for an extended period of time and go for as long as you possibly can. That’s the norm. She genuinely tends to buck the norm a little bit and do what’s best for her which is just really cool.”
