Arsenal had a shaky start to the game, giving away chances to the RC Lens players. Lens could have taken the lead in the 5th minute itself when a Lens corner bounced off the turf and sat up nicely for Danso to lash goalwards, but the shot flew just past the right post. Minutes later, Thomasson flashed a header just wide of the target, though a delayed flag went up for offside.

Arsenal looked unconvincing in their build-up play as well as dealing with set pieces. However, a mistake by the Lens defence led Arsenal to score the first goal.

Thomasson carelessly gave the ball away, and Saka latched on it. He fed it to Jesus, who shifted it onto his right before rifling into the bottom-left corner to put the visitors 1-0 up.

Lens restored parity in the 25th minute when Thomasson’s exquisite strike from Wahi’s deft knock-down found the net. Thomasson opened up his body before placing a superb finish past Raya.

In the second half, Lens continued to create problems for Arsenal side. The home side found their historic winner in the 69th minute when Frankowski’s delightful whipped cross picked out Wahi in the middle. The new signing’s first-time finish beat Raya for power to fly into the back of the net.

With the win, RC Lens climbed to the first spot of Champions League Group B with 4 points from two matches. Arsenal remained on second with 3 points from two matches.
