Arjuna Award 2022: Khel Ratna Award 2022: India’s table tennis legend Achanta Sharath Kamal has received a nomination for Khel Ratna Award 2022. The veteran paddler won a Commonwealth Games 2022 gold medal. On the back of an exceptional showing in the international circuit, shuttles HS Prannoy and youngster Lakshya Sen have received BAI’s recommendation for Arjuna Award. However, BCCI and AIFF have not recommended anyone for the prestigious sports award. However, Dinesh Lad, coach of India captain Rohit Sharma, has received the Dronacharya Award nomination. Young grandmaster R Praggnanandha, who has stunned world champion, Magnus Carlsen, three times, has also received a nomination. Amongst others, Boxing world champion Nikhat Zareen has also deservedly received a nomination. The nominees will now go through a panel of experts before the final list is out. The awards will be given next year on August 29 on National Sports Day.

Apart from Dinesh Lad, Olympic medallist Bajrang Punia’s coach Sujit Mann has been nominated for the Dronacharya award.
Shikhar Dhawan was the last cricketer to receive Arjuna award in 2021 while Rohit Sharma received Khel Ratna award in 2020.
Khel Ratna Award recommendations: Achanta Sharath Kamal: The veteran paddler is only the second table tennis player to be nominated for Khel Ratna award. Manika Batra is the only other paddler to get the highest sports award in India.
Sharath Kamal, who is still vying for a place in Paris Olympics, bagged three gold medals and a silver at the Commonwealth Games this year. Interestingly, the 40-year-old is the only sportsperson to receive Khel Ratna nomination this year.
