After Virat, Anushka tennis star Sania Mirza joins hands in raising funds for COVID-19 relief – Tennis star Sania Mirza has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to aid India’s fight against COVID-19. With a funding goal of Rs 25 lakh, the campaign has already raised Rs 6.14 lakh on the crowdfunding platform Ketto. This comes after India cricket captain Virat Kohli and his wife, Bollywood actress, Anushka Sharma had launched a similar campaign on that platform. The couple also donated Rs 2 crore.

In a post on Twitter, the Indian tennis star said that the raised funds will go to an NGO named Hemkunt Foundation. It will help in getting Oxygen cylinders to patients who are in need.

“Our country needs our help and we can do our bit by contributing as much as possible. I am raising funds for @hemkunt_foundation via @kettoindia and would ask you all to come forward and donate whatever amount is in your capacity,” Sania Mirza said.

With an acute shortage of oxygen being the primary problem in many cities in India during the second wave of the pandemic, the foundation will help COVID positive patients in getting the same.

“Our country is in the midst of the second wave of the pandemic & the number of cases is rising at an alarming rate. There is an acute shortage of medical oxygen, which many covid patients require. Family members of covid patients are running from pillar to post to arrange for oxygen cylinders, which could help save their loved ones’ lives,” Sania Mirza said in the message on the crowdfunding platform.

“India is bleeding. All of us must stand together to fight against this deadly virus! If you are wondering how you can stay home and help fight the pandemic, then here’s how today, I appeal to all of you to join my mission, to help India breathe. Let us raise funds to support the Hemkunt Foundation, which is working relentlessly to provide medical oxygen to Covid positive patients. Remember, it doesn’t matter how big or small the donation is because every single rupee counts! Come, let’s help India breathe!” the multiple Grand Slam winner added.

Her noble gesture comes after Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma had initiated a similar campaign named #’In This Together’ on Ketto. With a funding goal of Rs 7 crore, the campaign has raised Rs 4.71 crore. The proceedings will go to ACT grants which will procure medical supplies and Oxygen concentrators for patients.

Apart from them, many Indian cricketers and celebrities have donated medical supplies or helped hospitals and patients amplifying their needs on their social media platforms.
