AFC Champions League: FC Goa named a 28-member squad for the upcoming AFC Champions League campaign. The Gaurs begin their historic maiden voyage into top-tier continental club competition on April 14 when they take on Qatar’s Al-Rayyan. However, their star midfielder Alberto Noguera and forward Igor Angulo could not find a place in the squad with only four foreigners allowed. But India’s youngster Ishan Pandita will have his maiden continental exposure as he was amongst the 24 Indian players named in the squad.
As per the rules, All clubs are allowed to have no more than four foreign players in their squad. Out of this, one of them must belong to an AFC (Asian Football Federation) member association country. Australian defender James Donachie fulfils that criteria.

Forward Igor Angulo and midfielder Alberto Noguera miss out from amongst the Club’s foreign contingent that played in the Indian Super League. Meanwhile, Romeo Fernandes makes a comeback to the FC Goa first team for the first time since 2016.
The FC Goa squad sees 4 foreigners being named in the squad in addition to 11 players from the home state, Goa.
FC Goa, winners of the League Winners’ Shield in the Indian Super League 2019-2020 campaign, could not get past Chennaiyin FC in the semifinals. This season, they again failed in the semifinal hurdles as they lost to ATK Mohun Bagan in the semifinals on a tie-breaker. Mumbai City FC won their maiden ISL trophy after bagging the League Winners’ Shield. Sergio Lobera’s men will be India’s next entry to the AFC Champions League next season.
