WTC Final 2023: The 2023 Indian Premier League final game between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings is set to take place on Monday. After the rain spoiled the game on Sunday, it had to be moved to a reserve day. However, this postponement has severely hampered India’s preparations for the World Test Championship Final, which will be held on June 7 at the Oval. Shubman Gill, Mohammed Shami, and Ravindra Jadeja, who are part of India’s WTC squad, were expected to join the squad by May 30. After arriving in London earlier, some Indian players, including Virat Kohli, Axar Patel, Umesh Yadav, and Shardul Thakur, have already started preparing for the WTC final. Youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal and Team India captain Rohit Sharma also took out for London to join with the rest of his teammates. On Sunday, May 28, Rohit and Jaiswal boarded a plane bound for the United Kingdom.
Ruturaj Gaikwad was replaced by Jaiswal after he was unexpectedly called up as a stand-by player. Jaiswal had a great IPL 2023 season, scoring 625 runs at 48.08 in 14 games. Jaiswal will join Mukesh Kumar and Suryakumar Yadav as backup options for India. India kept the same 15-player squad, with the exception of KL Rahul, who withdrew from the WTC final owing to an injury, and Jaiswal taking Gaikwad’s place.
It’s unlikely that Gill, Shami, or Jadeja will be able to start training as soon as they arrive in London. Rahul Dravid, the head coach, won’t have access to his whole roster until after June 1. There has been talk of an intra-squad match, but that can only happen once GT and CSK players arrive.
