To emulate the champions of 1983 World Cup, Kabir Khan’s team for the ’83 is training like the champions. The Ranveer Singh starrer will not just present the success story of the 1983 World Cup champions, they will present the story like the champions themselves.

The star cast for the cricket docudrama is training like the cricketers of 1983. A ten-day training camp is organised at the picturesque Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala.

The cast had earlier trained in Mumbai. The shoot is scheduled to start from May 15 in London and Scotland where director Kabir Khan is expected to capture all the action over a period of 100 days. But he wants to master his cast cricket skills and style of the iconic characters they will be playing.

“It’s a cricket boot camp at the beautiful Kangra stadium up in the mountains. We will live together and train like a cricket team for the next 10 days. Many of the players from the original squad will also be here to train the actors,” Kabir Khan is quoted as saying by Mumbai Mirror. The director is himself camping with the team at Dharamshala in Himachal Pradesh.

The 1983 team member, medium pacer Balvinder Singh Sandhu is reportedly coaching the onscreen team along with former Mumbai Under-19 cricketer Rajiv Mehra, who is the fitness trainer.

Ranveer, who plays Kapil Dev, will learn the tricks of the trade including his lethal outswingers from the 1983 World Cup champion captain.

India have beaten the two-time champions at the Lord’s ground in London to win the 1983 World Cup. The victory had laid the foundation for India to be a cricket super power. It was this win that had inspired Sachin Tendulkar to play the sport seriously with a dream to represent the country.
