2028 Olympics – Cricket in the Olympics – The International Cricket Council (ICC) CEO Geoff Allardice has vowed to include cricket in the Los Angeles Olympics of 2028. It’s been a long time since there have been calls for cricket to be included in the Olympics. The shortest format of the game i.e. T20I cricket has been tipped to be included in the Olympics, but no support from other non-playing nations has seen the game excluded from the Olympics. Statement – “In many of our members, being seen as an Olympic sport and having an association with the government and the national Olympic movement is something that is going to be really beneficial in terms of facilities and high-performance assistance.”
“It’s certainly not a money-making exercise from our point of view, it’s about getting exposure for cricket in markets where we may not be popular.
“And the other one is about giving all of our 106 members the opportunity to engage more closely with their governments. In some countries, being an Olympic sport gets you closer to your government than not being an Olympic sport.”

Included from initial list – While the ICC has been trying its best to get the game of cricket included in the Olympics, lack of support from other countries has curtailed the inclusion. However, in recent years the associate nations have vowed to help ICC’s bid to make a strong claim as the game is included from initial list.
Asian Games could be foundation stone – Most recently Asian Games had cricket included in its programs, making a foundation stone for Olympics to do so. Although, Cricket is played in handful of nations, it has a wide global audience and this could be a major hallmark for its inclusion in the LA games in 2028.
