2019 FIFA Women World Cup : Google celebrates the start with doodle

The FIFA Women World Cup starts today and Google is celebrating the mega event in its own unique way, with a doodle.  This is first of the many doodles unveiled by Google to capture the excitement of the World Cup hosted by France. Each of the doodle will be designed by a guest artist representing each of the competing countries. A total of 24 teams are competing in the eighth edition of the World Cup, the final of which will be played in the French city of Lyon on July 7.

While seven of the 24 teams will be making their eighth consecutive appearance, four teams — Chile, Scotland, South Africa, and Jamaica — will make their World Cup debut. Jamaica is the first women football team from the Caribbean to qualify for the tournament.
The tournament opener will see host France taking on South Korea tomorrow. Les Bleues are ranked fourth in the world and are seen as the second favourites after the holders, the United States.
Defending champions the United States are the firm favourites to win the tournament, which is being hailed as the toughest-ever Women’s football World Cup.
Organisers were pleased to announce on Thursday that more than 950,000 tickets had now been sold for the tournament, as the United States aim to lift the trophy for the fourth time.
Among the other contenders are England, who begin their bid for a first major trophy against old rivals Scotland in Nice on Sunday.
Germany are also serious contenders and they open their campaign on Saturday when they play China in Rennes in Group B. Spain play South Africa later in Le Havre in the same group before Norway and Nigeria clash in Reim

The World Cup final will be played on July 7th 2019. The 24 teams who have been qualified for the World cup are divided into 6 groups, starting from Group A to Group F.
